Dear Friend of the South Shore Players,
In early 2020, cast and crew of the South Shore Players were eagerly anticipating another year of bringing live productions to South Shore theatre lovers, like you.
Last February, our Valentine’s Cabaret warmed the hearts of more than 100 people. At the same time, rehearsals were underway for Rick Abbot’s hilarious comedy, Play On!, scheduled for April 2020. Just a few months later, we were to bring you Locally Yours, our biennial collection of Nova Scotia-written and produced plays. As well, we were already looking ahead to our ever-popular Christmas production.
And then, COVID-19 slammed us. For the first time in 25 years, our stage went dark. While the pandemic did not, and cannot, diminish our passion for bringing community theatre to you, it has seriously challenged us, financially.
Ticket sales are what enable the South Shore Players, an entirely volunteer-driven group, to present live theatre to the community. But COVID 19 cancelled almost our entire season. Suddenly, our income stream disappeared, while expenses continue. Rent and insurance for our modest rehearsal and storage space must still be paid. (That space, in the basement of a local church, is home to hundreds of beautiful costumes and countless theatre props, large and small.)
Entertaining South Shore audiences has been our passion and privilege since 1993. But, right now, we need your help. In a year when we cannot stage the performances that fund our existence, we are asking if you will consider supporting community theatre through a financial donation to the South Shore Players? Visit our Get Involved page and click on the DONATE button.
Your gift of $25, $50 or $100 will help ensure the South Shore Players’ curtain does indeed rise again because, after all, the show must go on!
